Emotional intelligence as an influence for improving social skills in primary school students
Keywords:
Emotional intelligence, social skills, primary education, socio-emotional developmentAbstract
This study aimed to analyze the influence of emotional intelligence on the improvement of social skills among sixthgrade students at a public elementary school in Tizayuca, Hidalgo. A quantitative approach was adopted, using a non-experimental, descriptive, and cross-sectionaldesign. The results obtained through the application of the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory and Goldstein’s Social Skills Checklist showed that most sixth-grade students scored at médium levels in both emotional intelligence and social skills. Strengths were observed in dimensions such as mood and adaptability, while areas for improvement were identified in stress management, emotional expression, and advanced social skills. These findings help characterize the socio-emotional profile of the participating group, which may be useful for guiding educational strategies that foster students’ holistic development.
