Poultry farming and technical training in rural areas

The study focuses on poultry production in rural areas of Lambayeque, Peru, highlighting its relevance for both food security and the local economy. In this sector, where women represent 78% of producers, various challenges are faced, including low productivity levels, limited technical knowledge, and weak associative organization. A preliminary diagnosis identified three categories of producers: subsistence, transitioning, and emerging, with subsistence producers comprising 56%. Factors such as feed, accounting for 61% of costs, and low product quality, reaching 22%, negatively impact the sector's competitiveness. The research proposes a technical training model consisting of productive diagnosis, an inclusive approach, differentiated training by levels, permanent technical assistance, and the strengthening of productive networks. This framework aims to improve management practices, increase production efficiency, and promote sustainability. Training activities, tailored to local conditions, include practical workshops, personalized advisory sessions, and biosecurity measures. Validated by experts, the model fosters the integration of public policies and equitable participation, strengthening the role of women and ensuring a lasting social and economic impact. The findings emphasize the urgency of implementing actions to enhance training and associativity in the rural poultry sector. For future perspectives, it is suggested to analyze economic feasibility, develop marketing strategies, and adopt sanitary measures to increase both productivity and quality in this field.
