Abstract

This study analyses the factors that influence school retention and dropout rates among students receiving the Benito Juárez Scholarship at the CONALEP Villahermosa II campus in Mexico. A quantitative, cross-sectional, and descriptive design was used with a randomly selected sample of 167 students. Likert-scale questionnaires were administered to measure sociodemographic, family, economic, emotional, and academic variables linked to continuing school. The results show high satisfaction with the technical program and confidence in the possibility of continuing higher education and finding work. The Benito Juárez Scholarship is perceived as a fundamental financial support that contributes to reducing financial barriers and facilitating student retention, although only about 25% consider dropping out if they lose the scholarship. Factors such as bullying and family and socioemotional problems also negatively influence the decision to drop out, highlighting the need to address this issue from a comprehensive perspective, beyond financial support. The research provides quantitative evidence that contributes to the evaluation and design of public policies aimed at improving retention in upper secondary education.
