Abstract

Oral health in children and adolescents is an essential determinant of overall well-being. Despite this, preventive gaps, educational limitations, and inequalities in access to services persist in Latin America. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between social media use and dental health knowledge among students at the Unidad Educativa Sudamericano in Cuenca, Ecuador. A mixed, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design was developed with a sample of 152 participants. The OHKAP questionnaire with semi-structured interviews with educational authorities were administered. The results show that consumption of reliable digital content on oral health is associated with a higher level of knowledge and adoption of preventive habits, while simultaneously identifying the risks of misinformation and digital inequality. It is concluded that the integration of formal education, professional guidance, and reliable digital platforms can enhance prevention and reduce the high prevalence of caries.
