Historical Reconstruction of Atahualpa's Life, within the framework of Universal Design for Learning
Keywords:
Atahualpa, Contemporary indigenous thought, Inca culture, Universal Learning DesignAbstract
This article analyzes the contemporary relevance of Atahualpa's thought and Inca culture in general in the indigenous cultures of Ecuador, Peru, and other Andean indigenous peoples. Through an analysis of information from the main institutions in Ecuador and Peru that are dedicated to propagating this thought with various objectives, it was possible to know the main characteristics of Atagualpa's thought that have contemporary influence, the main phrases attributed to this Inca were analyzed, and three main dimensions of the validity of Atagualpa's thought and the Incas were identified: as a symbolic weapon of national identity in the battles for plurinationality; as a political critique of the neocolonial system that perpetuates inequalities and land dispossession of indigenous peoples and fights for their rights; and as a rescue of ancestral cultures, knowledge, and memory as a solution to the emerging problems of today's world.A Universal Learning Design approach is proposed to communicate the results obtained to students.
