Keywords:

The study aimed to characterize scientific research on gender issues in the university context, taking into account the relevance that reflection on these topics has achieved in recent years both globally and in Cuba. The Journalism program at the University of Matanzas was used as a case study due to the social role its graduates play and their influence on shaping public opinion. Furthermore, due to the importance of communication, and journalism in particular, in contributing to public education, the study was based on the analysis of theses and articles by students and professors from the program from 2013 to 2024. From a predominantly qualitative perspective and supported by techniques such as content analysis and documentary bibliographic review, the study demonstrated a lack of systematic approach to gender issues from a research perspective, poor coordination with training and outreach processes, and missing aspects of the research agenda. It was concluded that this topic has a weak presence in: the scientific work of the program, marked by a lack of transdisciplinarity in its approach. Therefore, its revitalization is urgently needed to train professionals capable of promoting a culture of equity.
