Abstract

The transformation of the urban environment through green infrastructure has gained relevance as a strategy to improve the quality of life in densely populated cities. Green architecture has positioned itself as a tool capable of integrating nature and urban design, promoting social, environmental, and emotional benefits. This research aimed to analyze the impact of green architecture on the perception of urban well-being in two contrasting residential areas of the city of Guayaquil: a regenerated area with limited vegetation and a planned urban center with a robust presence of green infrastructure. A quantitative, non-experimental methodology with a cross-sectional design and a comparative approach was applied. A structured survey was used to collect information on dimensions such as accessibility, aesthetics, functionality, and emotional well-being. Exploratory factor analysis identified two main components: one associated with the physical and structural conditions of the green environment, and another linked to social and emotional perceptions. The results showed clear differences between the two groups, with more positive evaluations in spaces with integrated vegetation. It was concluded that green architecture not only improves the functionality of urban space but also significantly impacts the subjective experience of living. Its systematic incorporation into public policies for sustainable urban development was recommended.
