Abstract

Eco-efficient strategies for solid waste management have historically been limited, leading to significant issues in environmental conservation and care. The lack of appropriate approaches has contributed to an increase in poorly managed waste, negatively affecting both local communities and the global ecosystem. For this reason, it became essential to implement strategies that promote a circular economy based on environmental education, enabling citizens to generate income through recycling and the proper management of solid waste. This approach not only provides economic benefits to communities but also reduces the environmental impact caused by waste. The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of eco-efficiency strategies on solid waste management in a municipality. To achieve this objective, three research questions were formulated using the PICO methodology, and a systematic search was conducted in the Scopus database. Strict inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, complemented by the PRISMA method, which allowed for the identification, screening, and inclusion of 45 relevant and up-to-date articles on the subject. The findings revealed that the implementation of appropriate strategies in solid waste management significantly reduced waste generation, strengthened citizens' environmental education, and promoted a sustainable circular economy. It was concluded that eco-efficiency strategies have a positive influence on solid waste management, establishing themselves as an essential process for the sustainable development of societies and for better environmental care.
