Abstract

The water resource is essential for life, which is why appropriate management of reservoirs is necessary based on comprehensive knowledge of them. Among the effects on the quality of dammed waters due to their multiple uses, is eutrophication. Although the Abreus reservoir was originally built for irrigation, it also has industrial and human consumption uses. This motivated several previous studies to assess the quality of its waters, with reports of eutrophic conditions and the appearance of cyanobacteria blooms. The objective of this work was to carry out a comparative analysis of the water trophic state of this reservoir after a decade, to see if any change has occurred. The data obtained at two points analyzed in 4 sampling campaigns, during 2012 and 2022, were considered; these corresponded to parameters related to the trophic state such as: nutrients, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll-a and transparency. The results after the application of a eutrophication index showed little change since mesotrophic conditions continue after a decade. However, considering that the maximum values are very close to the eutrophy criterion, it is necessary to carry out actions that contribute to a significant reduction of the nutrient loads incorporated into this reservoir.
