Relationship of sociodemographic variables in sport

Abstract

Particularly in sport, movement is essential to achieve a certain sporting goal. Analyzing those alterations that can cause damage at a systemic level is a challenge for researchers in this field. The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between sports injuries and sociodemographic variables (age, gender, sport, diagnosis and category), during the year 2021 at the Provincial Sports Medicine Center of Cienfuegos. A descriptive study was carried out with a population of 220 athletes who suffered injuries during the year 2019, the average age was =14 years and the variables: age, sex, diagnosis and sport were analyzed. Statistical processing was performed through a comparison based on the distribution of frequencies and percentages of the variables under study. The correlation and independence between the variables Diagnosis-Sport, Diagnosis-Sex and Diagnosis-Category were determined by using the statistician’s Contingency coefficient for the case of nominal-nominal type variables and Pearson's R and Spearman's Correlation for the variables of nominal-ordinal type, through the statistical program IBM SPSS for Windows version 21.0. Results. The characterization of the athletes showed prevalence of: male sex, categories 13-14 and 15-16 years, joint and muscle injuries and combat sports, with balls and water. It was concluded that there was only a strong dependency relationship between the diagnosis (sports injuries) and Sport variables, but not in the rest of the related variables.
