Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Design and Evaluation of Projects in Higher Education

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and the perceived quality and efficiency of project design and evaluation in higher education. Using a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional correlational design, a Likert-scale questionnaire was administered to 100 participants (48 lecturers and 52 students) at an Ecuadorian university. Descriptive results revealed a high level of AI adoption: 75 % of respondents use it frequently or constantly. Mean scores for AI integration (M = 4.10; SD = 0.78), project design and evaluation quality (M = 3.92; SD = 0.85), and evaluation efficiency (M = 3.87; SD = 0.91) were all above the scale midpoint. Inferential analyses showed positive and significant correlations between AI integration and quality (r = .58; p < .01) and efficiency (r = .63; p < .01). Linear regression indicated that AI integration predicts 34 % of the variance in quality and 39 % in efficiency. It is concluded that AI significantly contributes to the improvement of academic processes, although teacher training and institutional policies are required to ensure its ethical and equitable use.
