Abstract

Every new year, people and institutions reflect on the purposes of the next year, to open a new door, a new path, a new goal or a new destination. In this editorial I would like to share with you what the aspirations of our magazine are, which I could summarize as being able to transmit to our readers through our publications three important words: science, sustainability and wisdom.

We chose these words because we are convinced that they are the solution to try to solve the main emerging problems in the world today, which are complex and multifaceted, and require an immediate, coordinated and effective response from all the social actors involved. This requires that these actors be well informed about its complexity, significant impact and immediacy of their attention, which in our understanding must be done by transmitting innovative and updated new conceptions and science, sustainability and wisdom paradigms.

First of all, the science that we intend to transmit should have the seal of being open science, which means free scientific knowledge, accessible online and reusable. It must guarantee that the published articles are available free of charge, with licenses that allow the reuse, redistribution and reproduction of the published research, its underlying data and methods. This makes a research model that stimulates mutual, inclusive, transparent and reproducible learning. This also implies increasing collaboration and open and collaborative exchange between publishers and magazines for the benefit of science and society.

We also continue to advocate that our articles transmit a science of sustainability, characterized by the close link between science, technology and innovation, treatment of complexity as science, transdisciplinarity, integration of knowledge, cooperation between scientists, acceptance of vulnerabilities and resilience, early warnings and risk management, humble attitude and responsible position, science with ethical and political dimensions. In short, science committed to sustainable development.

This takes for granted that we are capable of transmitting in our publications the necessary transitions to achieve this conceptual and ethical, democratic, technological, economic, social, environmental and institutional development, to which we will give preference. This in turn involves trying to influence changing the dominant pattern in society from linear flow to one of cyclical flow, with holistic conceptions, integrative techniques, all types of capital, short, medium and long term strategies and reproductive cycles, that allow above all to maintain the health of our ecosystems.

Finally, it is necessary besides providing information and knowledge, to transmit wisdom as well as knowledge. We must assume that wisdom does not expire and knowledge does.  This wisdom has to have new paradigms that help us understand that the complexity of the world means living full of uncertainties but that we have to look for solutions within them, recognize the existence of different forms of spirituality, which seek to establish a fundamental debate about the way of living and thinking, responsibility towards nature, others and oneself, adapting them to the specific cultural and social conditions where we apply them, and above all spreading an ethic of sustainability that helps regulate behaviors and customs.

It is the objective of our magazine to help our universities be:

  • A space for research and increase of human knowledge, for critical and analytical reading of this knowledge, for its treatment, processing and discussion, for its interpretation and evaluation.
  • A space for the articulation of knowledge with life, at the individual and social, local, regional and universal levels.
  • A space for pedagogical, organic, and systematic transmission of knowledge and the enrichment and dissemination of human cultural heritage.
  • A space for knowledge transfer in science, technology and innovation.

In relation to society, we aim with our publications to help understand what welfare implies:

MAN SATISFIED WITH HIS ENVIRONMENT

  • Clean air and water.
  • Uncontaminated meal for adequate food and nutrition.
  • Appropriate rainfall and temperatures.
  • Productive soils for agricultural, forestry, and livestock production.
  • Non-polluting energies.
  • New technologies that make life more sustainable and simpler.
  • Efficient and effective health and education services.
  • Housing and other appropriate infrastructure.

THOUGHT´S FREEDOM AND GENERATION OF IDEAS

  • Capacity to love.
  • Project yourself into the future.
  • Correct your own life.
  • Respect, dialogue, tolerance, truth, justice, peace, love and happiness.
  • Decide between diverse and fair options.
  • Security.
  • Fairer and more comprehensive thinking.
  • Transportation and mobility.
  • Relationships with family and friends, free time.

We would feel extremely satisfied and happy if our publications helped us understand IF WE WANT TO CHANGE THE SITUATION OF THE WORLD, WE HAVE TO START BY CHANGE OURSELVES.

As always, we make these criteria available to our readers, wishing all our users a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2025 and as a gift from our Editorial I would like to share with you a reflection by Pablo Neruda that can help you guide each one's wishes for 2025.

Don't Blame Anyone

Never complain about anyone, nor anything, because basically you have done

what you wanted in your life.

Accept the difficulty of improving yourself and the courage to start changing yourself.

The triumph of the true man emerges from the ashes of his mistake.

Never complain about your loneliness or your luck, face it with courage and accept it.

In one way or another it is the outcome of your acts and the thought that you always

have to win.

Don't be embittered by your own failure or blame it on another, accept yourself now or you'll keep making excuses for yourself like a child.

Remember that any time is a good time to begin and that nobody is so horrible that they should give up.

Don't forget that the cause of your present is your past, as well as the cause of your

future will be your present.

Learn from the bold, the strong, those who don't accept situations, who will live in spite of everything. Think less in your problems and more in your work and your problems, without eliminating them, will die.

Learn how to grow from the pain and to be greater than the greatest of those obstacles. Look at yourself in the mirror and you will be free and strong and you will stop being a puppet of circumstances because you yourself are your own destiny.

Arise and look at the sun in the mornings and breathe the light of the dawn. You are part of the force of your life; now wake up, fight, get going, be decisive and you will triumph in life. Never think about luck because luck is the pretext of losers.
