Implications of emerging technologies in the judicial field

Abstract

The growing implementation of artificial intelligence in the legal field has sparked a debate about its regulation and the ethical and legal implications it entails. In this context, the objective was to analyze the regulation of artificial intelligence in the field of Law in the Tulcán Canton, in order to identify its ethical, legal and practical implications, as well as its impact on the legal profession and the administration. of justice. To achieve this objective, a quantitative approach was used, using surveys directed at lawyers in the Tulcán Canton. The questions covered the perception of the need for regulation, the impact on professional ethics and trust in the recommendations generated by artificial intelligence. The results highlighted that a majority of lawyers recognized the usefulness of artificial intelligence in legal practice, although they also expressed concerns about its depersonalization. Likewise, a high percentage expressed confidence in artificial intelligence to improve efficiency in the administration of justice. Consequently, it was concluded that the regulation of artificial intelligence is presented as a prevailing need to maintain the ethical integrity of the profession. Additionally, opportunities were identified for the continued training of lawyers in the responsible use of these technologies, thus promoting a more effective and equitable legal environment.
