Keywords:

This study combines a qualitative–quantitative approach to evaluate backend frameworks for web development, focusing on the ORM tool Entity Framework Core (EF Core) in an academic setting. A multi-criteria analysis was conducted using TechEmpower benchmarks and literature, alongside a Likert survey of Software Engineering students. Findings reveal that ASP.NET Core (with EF Core) leads in performance, whereas frameworks like Django and Rails excel in ease of learning and community support. Student perception of EF Core is moderate with considerable dispersion, highlighting the need for enhanced pedagogical support and guided practice to deepen understanding and effective use of EF Core.
