Educational approach to political ecology. Views for the university context

Higher Education has a function of service to society, and its activities must be aimed at understanding multifaceted problems with social, economic, scientific and cultural dimensions, it corresponds to assume a position of social leadership to eradicate the different problems, from a interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach. A historical demand is the environmental problem, it is urgent to change perceptions, values and attitudes. Political ecology proposes a pedagogical process that contributes to environmental training and that subjects can participate in decision-making processes and design of environmental, social and public policies. Therefore, it is intended to analyze the educational approach of political ecology as an alternative for the training process in universities. For this, the main challenges and demands of environmental training in universities and the theoretical and methodological references of political ecology will be determined, and the educational contributions of political ecology will be explained.
