Abstract

The research studies the professional state of the Cuban press from the analysis of its quality and credibility, taking the provincial media of Cienfuegos as a case study. Bibliographic-documentary and ethnographic methods are assumed, as well as bibliographic review techniques, structured and semi-structured interviews, and the focus group. Based on the results obtained, the ineffectiveness and scientific bias of the quality commissions of the media analyzed are confirmed, since they do not adhere to valid criteria to critically evaluate the professional work of the union: quality indicators such as the contrast of sources of information, attention to the interests of the public or the adequate use of the artistic and technical resources of each journalistic format. Likewise, although the public perceives the official Cuban press as relatively reliable, it recognizes its lack of seriousness in information monitoring and the low visibility of the social conflicts of the national reality, since the published content is more affiliated with the political agenda of the country than to the public agenda.
