Abstract

The protection of human rights in the context of persons deprived of liberty in Ecuador is a crucial issue that requires urgent attention and action. The prison crisis in Ecuador is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon fueled by various causes, resulting in severe repercussions for society. This article aims to highlight the necessity of protecting the rights of persons deprived of liberty in Ecuador, which allows for reflection on the relevance of implementing mechanisms to mitigate the occurrence of prison riots in the country. The research is qualitative, employing surveys as a technique. A total of 35 individuals participated in the study; 15 lawyers, 15 ordinary citizens, and 5 inmates. Among the findings, it stands out that there is a lack of intervention from international organizations regarding the prison crises in the country. There is a violation of the rights of persons deprived of liberty, with the primary concern being the loss of the right to life due to riots within prisons. The protection of human rights for persons deprived of liberty is, indeed, an essential component for building a democratic and just state.
