The objective of the research was to determine the level of emotional intelligence, as well as its intrapersonal, interpersonal, adaptability, stress management and mood dimensions in students entering Peruvian universities. To do so, a quantitative methodology was used in a sample of 320 students from three universities, selected through non-probabilistic, convenience sampling, to whom the EQ-I BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory was administered, adapted for Peru by Ugarriza (2001). This questionnaire was sent to each student through Google Form, which allowed adequate collection of research data, which were processed with SPPS, both for descriptive statistics, which allowed establishing the mean for each of the elements measured, and for the hypothesis test (Kruskal-Wallis H Test). The results showed low or very low levels of emotional intelligence, intrapersonal dimension, interpersonal dimension; poor level in adaptability and mood; also, high or excellent in stress management. It was concluded that there are significant differences between the three groups of students -UTP-UNT-UNS (p<0.05).
