Analysis of economic and demographic factors in vehicle registration in Ecuador (2013-2023)
Abstract
The main objective of this study was to analyze the influence of various economic and demographic variables on vehicle registration in Ecuador. To develop the stated objective, historical data of the variables of interest were collected in the period between 2013 and 2023. Statistical analysis techniques, such as Pearson correlation analysis and multivariate regression, were used to identify significant relationships between the variables and project future trends in vehicle registration. The results obtained showed a significant positive correlation between GDP and urban population with vehicle registration. Likewise, the main results highlighted that GDP growth and the increase in the urban population are determining factors in the increase in registered vehicles. Projections were made to verify the model obtained, which indicated an increasing trend in vehicle registration, aligned with economic growth and urban expansion. The study provided valuable knowledge for planning and policy formulation in the transportation sector. Furthermore, it was recommended to use the developed model as a predictive tool for future analysis and related studies, opening new lines of research in other sectors of interest.
