Method for the recovery of the shaft of an induced draft fan

Authors

Abstract

This work presents a comprehensive method for the shaft recovery of an induced draft fan, addressing critical aspects such as vibration study, plating process, mechanical analysis and the implementation of precise adjustments and tolerances. The application of this method was carried out specifically on the induced draft fan model P-52-115-1 of the F-101-1 boiler, and involved a series of essential steps to ensure the effectiveness of the recovery process. Initially, a comprehensive mechanical vibration analysis was performed to identify potential failure points and areas for improvement in the fan structure. Subsequently, a detailed analysis of the manufacturing and mechanical strength of the shaft was performed using simulation tools such as Autodesk Inventor. This analysis made it possible to determine that the main failure was caused by the loss of crankcase staticity, with the highest shear stresses located at the bearing supports, where the most significant loads were concentrated. To correct these problems and improve shaft durability, a plating process was implemented. This procedure not only increased the surface strength of the shaft, but also allowed the necessary adjustments to be made to the bearings, ensuring optimal fan operation. Overall, the proposed method offers a robust solution for the recovery of critical components in industrial ventilation systems.
