Abstract

Waste management is a global issue of utmost importance, since the progressive increase in solid waste poses great dangers. The objective of the research was to propose a joint management model for the collection and final disposal of solid waste in Piñas, Atahualpa, Zaruma and Portovelo. This research presents a comprehensive level, with a projective scope, followed a field, non-experimental, mixed-source design and with a contemporary transactional approach. The research was carried out in three phases, in the first the per capita production was determined as an indicator of environmental management of solid waste, in the second a questionnaire was applied to diagnose the current situation of solid waste management. According to the results obtained, the Piñas canton and other cantons of the commonwealth show relevant growth in terms of generation of per capita production (PPC) measured in kilograms per day, which would already be above 0.50 kg/day. room/day. 28% of those surveyed say that the service is disorderly; and 20% state that the service previously was not good. The proposed management model is based on achieving the articulation of the following principles: hierarchy, integrated management, extended responsibility of the producer. economic instruments and reduction of hazardous waste.
