Comparison of pediatric competencies during training, between face-to-face and E-Learning students evaluated in clinical simulation

Abstract

Medical training requires solid preparation in various areas, including pediatrics. Competency assessment is essential to ensure that medical students are adequately prepared to meet clinical challenges in practice.

This article examines and compares the end-of-year competencies in pediatrics between medical students who followed an in-person program and those who took semesters in the e-learning modality due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Assessment of these competencies was carried out using simulation clinics, a controlled environment that provides realistic clinical scenarios of pediatric situations. The differences in performance between three groups were analyzed, as well as the effectiveness of the simulation as an evaluation tool in different learning modalities. The results suggest that simulation is a valuable tool for the evaluation of competencies in pediatrics, as well as highlighting the importance of adapting teaching and evaluation methods to the specific needs of each modality.
