Introducing the emerging field of Academic Diplomacy
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The present paper explores the emerging field of academic diplomacy with an emphasis on educational leadership. A brief introduction to the field is provided with an emphasis on its historical development. Then an explanation is provided regarding the transition from an emphasis on internationalization to globalization of higher education and finally to glocalization. This provides a context for a discussion of the role and duties of the academic diplomat. Theoretical considerations are then explored with a view to integrated theories developed in traditional interstate diplomacy with those central to contemporary educational leadership. A final section provides a few recommendations for further research in this emerging branch of educational leadership.
