El debate vanguardias artísticas versus realismo socialista. Visión de José Antonio Portuondo

Resumen

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo general la valoración del pensamiento estético de José Antonio Portuondo (1911-1996), intelectual nacido en la ciudad de Santiago de Cuba, a partir de sus concepciones dentro del debate cultural del triunfo de la Revolución Cubana, en el que las divergencias entre las vanguardias artísticas y el realismo socialista fueron determinantes para comprender cómo se gestó nuestro pensamiento estético. Las circunstancias en que se desarrolló en Cuba pre y post revolucionaria lo llevaron a asumir posiciones abiertas y otras más radicales sobre el fenómeno estético, en su desempeño como pedagogo, rector de la Universidad de Oriente y Director del Instituto de Literatura y Lingüística de Cuba. A partir del método histórico- lógico y hermenéutico se analizan sus textos para desentrañar sus concepciones en torno a lo estético desde el gran humanista, profesor, ensayista y crítico que fue. José Antonio Portuondo forma parte de los antecedentes del pensamiento estético en Cuba. Comprender sus ideas desde la actualidad significa mirar con sentido crítico nuestra historia y el contexto en el que le tocó desenvolverse como intelectual.

ABSTRACT

This article aims at assessing the aesthetic thinking of José Antonio Portuondo (1911-1996), an intellectual born in Santiago de Cuba city, from his conceptions within the cultural debate of the Cuban Revolution, in which the divergences between artistic avant-gardes and socialist realism were decisive in understanding how our aesthetic thinking was conceived. The circumstances in which Jose Antonio Portuondo developed his intellectual work, in Cuba both pre and post-revolutionary, led him to assume positions, sometimes flexible and other far more radical about the aesthetic phenomenon, in his performance as a pedagogue, rector of the Universidad de Oriente and Head of the Institute of Literature and Linguistics of Cuba. His literature production is analyzed from the historical-logical and hermeneutical method, to unravel his conceptions around the aesthetic from the great humanist, teacher, essayist and critic who he was. José Antonio Portuondo is part of the history of the Cuban aesthetic thinking. Understanding his ideas from an updated vision means looking critically at our history and the context in which he developed as an intellectual.
