José Martí en la perspectiva de Manuel Martínez Méndez

Resumen

El presente trabajo constituye un acercamiento al tratamiento e importancia que le diera en dos de sus trabajos escritos Manuel Martínez Méndez (Asturias 1895-Cienfuegos 1976), creador de la Fundación Cultural Oasis Teosófico Martiano de Cienfuegos, a la figura imprescindible de José Martí. El primero titulado El sentido de América y su mejor vehículo: José Martí del 13 de julio de 1951 y el segundo El Gran creador José Martí con motivo del aniversario 99 del natalicio del Apóstol, publicado el 19 de mayo de 1952. En ambos artículos, a la luz de sus concepciones teosóficas y martianas, Martínez Méndez expone una interesante visión en torno al nuevo humanismo que, como expresión del sentido americano que en Martí se expresa, considera debe caracterizar a todos los cubanos digno. Así mismo expone sus reflexiones en torno al papel de la educación moral para el cultivo de la virtud ciudadana, a la situación política de Cuba y al papel que debiera desempeña la iglesia católica en la sociedad cubana del momento.

ABSTRACT

This work is an approach to the treatment and importance given in two of the written work of Manuel Martínez Méndez (Asturias 1895 - Cienfuegos 1976), creator of the Cultural Foundation Oasis Teosófico Martiano de Cienfuegos, the essential figure of José Martí. The first entitled “The meaning of America and its best vehicle: José Martí on July 13, 1951” and the second “The Great creator José Martí on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the birth of the Apostle”, published on May 19, 1952. In both articles, in the light of his theosophical and Martiana conception, Martínez Méndez exposes an interesting vision about the new humanism that, as an expression of the American sense that Martí expresses, considers that it should characterize all Cubans worthy. He also exposes his reflections on the role of moral education for the cultivation of civic virtue, the political situation in Cuba and the role that the Catholic Church should play in the Cuban society in the current times.
