Un enfoque ciencia y tecnología desde las acciones desplegadas por Tomás Terry Adams (1830-1882)

Resumen

El presente trabajo devela un enfoque ciencia y tecnología desde las acciones desplegadas por Tomás Terry Adams entre los años 1830-1882. Destaca el papel asumido por un inmigrante que conquistó el espacio cienfueguero, e introdujo un pensamiento moderno que le permitió hacer su fortuna y vincularse a las actividades económicas y comerciales del grupo de la burguesía polivalente cienfueguera. En el cuerpo del trabajo se declara cómo se produjo en Cienfuegos la conversión del trapiche en ingenio y de éste en central, únicamente con la disposición de los capitales de la burguesía polivalente sureña de la que formó parte Tomás Terry y que fue la que con el capital suficiente aplicó los conocimientos científicos a la tecnificación azucarera y de su comercialización. En el caso concreto de Cienfuegos, la participación del bloque burgués logró poner sus fortunas en el proceso de modernización de la tecnología con marcados intereses individuales y sociales, posible por formar parte también de la élite y los grupos de poder.

ABSTRACT

The present work reveals a science and technology approach from the actions deployed by Tomás Terry Adams between the years 1830-1882. It highlights the role assumed by an immigrant who conquered the Cienfuegos space, and introduced a modern thought that allowed him to make his fortune and to be linked to the economic and commercial activities of the group of the polyvalent Cienfuegos bourgeoisie. In the body of the work, it is declared how the conversion of the sugar mill took place in Cienfuegos, and of this one in the central one, only with the disposition of the capitals of the southern polyvalent bourgeoisie of which Tomás Terry was part and that was the one with the sufficient capital applied scientific knowledge to the sugar technification and its commercialization. In the specific case of Cienfuegos, the participation of the bourgeois block managed to put its fortunes in the process of modernization of technology with marked individual and social interests, possible to also be part of the elite and the groups of power.
